We began our journey to the Antarctic on the Ocean Diamond ship. It has a capacity of about 189 passengers. It isn't all that large so that it can maneuver between islands and various icebergs and some areas that may be a bit shallow. The ocean waves were not too bad until we reached the Drake Passage.
That is when many folks were not feeling very well, including me. :-(
We had some briefings on board the ship to make sure we were aware of all of the features as well as the safety concerns. We have also had some very interesting lectures to help us identify various whales, penguins and seabirds. We also learned about some of the history as well as current scientific research.
This is a quick photo of our ship just as we were about to board. We have an un obstructed view on deck 6. It really gives us a nice view. As you probably can tell, there isn't a walkway around the outside decks of this ship. We also have had a lot of daylight hours. It is still light at midnight.
