Tour of Budapest and more

Tuesday April 1, 2014

We had a busy day in Budapest. We toured around seeing various squares and overviews of the city. We also went into a huge synagogue that looked more like a Christian church. That was the intention since they wished to fit In better due to all of the issues in the Jewish past.

Here is Walt wearing a yamuke in order to enter.

A memorial to the deaths of Hungarian Jews. Each leaf has a name of a Jewish person who died during those terrible years of extermination.

Two bridges over the Danube River

Nice architecture

An old Tribant from the East Germany era.

Neat stained glass window

Walt trying to look cute with lovely background of the city of Budapest.

Neat overview of the Parliament taken through an arch.

Parliament building where we saw a gold crown with jewels that dates back to the 800s

Hungarian flag

This is a cigar holder that representatives in Parliament would use when on a break before taking a vote. Often times they would leave them burning and go in and vote and then return to finish their cigar.

Special sausages that can be purchased.

We went to an opera this evening. The opera itself was in German and the translation was in Hungarian. The seats were hard and small, other than that it was less than memorable.

In fact the opera was way too much excitement for us that we had to have a drink afterwards.
