Leaving Austria

Thursday April 4, 2014

We had another busy breakfast experience. We got on the bus and got everything stowed and ready to go onto the gardens of the Schonbrunn Palace. We also had the opportunity to have a lovely overview. The view over the gardens was really very nice. It would have been spectacular if it had been clearer. The garden paths had flowers, statues and large fountains.

We walked up as high as the eagle which is way up high in the first photo.

The next photo is of Walt standing in the back of the eagle once we got up there looking back at the palace.

Lovely palace and nice fountains. Too bad it was so overcast.

Next was Melk Abbey, which was magnificent. The baroque style of architecture was evident with all of the gold. There was an awful lot of magnificent gold all over in the Saints Peter & Paul church within the Abbey. The ornamentation was almost over the top along with little Cherubs all over the place.

Just a tad of gold on the altar at Saints Peter & Paul church at Melk Abbey

We drove into the Czech Republic later this afternoon and right at the border there are a few things that catch your eye. The things that strike you first are a couple of casinos, cheap gas prices, cheap beer and women of negotiable virtue. There were a couple of gals trying their hardest.

They were trying to hit on men coming and going out of the gas station.

We drove to a cute little village called Ceske Krumlov. It is a medieval town with a castle and a river that snakes around it. The cobbled streets which are mostly pedestrian get you to the square and various shops and such.

Mostly a pedestrian area, but guidelines to be aware of cars

Narrow walking streets

Nice place to spend Walt's birthday
